What are Continuing Education Units (CEU) and other Frequently
Asked Questions
LSEL/MindLeaders is currently partnering with several accrediting
bodies to offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs are used
in the USA nationally to measure completion of non-credit professional
development learning activities by an approved provider. CEUs can
be used to:
- Provide employers with a history of an employee's professional
development activities
- Apply for relicensure or recertification, as defined by state
agencies or
professional organizations
- Provide a basis for an employee's eligibility for a salary
increase or promotion
- Accrue college credit, based on an institution's requirements
for translating life experiences to college credit
- Provide a record for Lifelong Learning Tax Credits
Who can earn CEUs? How?
Anyone taking a LSEL/MindLeaders course from any source can get
CEUs from a partnering accrediting body. Accrediting bodies may
include state governments and their administrative bodies, as well
as professional organizations and bodies that represent groups of
universities.Students must send the relevant documentation and payment
to the accrediting institution and will receive a certificate granting
CEUs within a few weeks of initiating the request.
How are CEUs granted?
Typically, CEUs will be granted by the accrediting institution
if the following items are sent to that organization: score sheet
showing a mastery score on each unit; student's name, address, phone
number, social security number, and credit card information or money
order; a completed course evaluation; and a statement certifying
that the person requesting the CEUs is the person who took the test.
